Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) also called red ash, swamp ash and water ash is a hardy and fast growing excellent shade tree.  Foliage is a rich dark green turning yellow in the fall.  Green Ash is very popular due to its fast growth, adaptability to various soil conditions and the ability to withstand drought.   The Green Ash grows to 50’ to 60’ in height with a 25’ to 30’ mature spread and is oval in shape. 

Habitat:

Green Ash does well in full sun.  Grows in acidic, alkaline, drought tolerant, loamy, moist, sandy, well drained, wet, wide range, clay soil.

Uses:

Green Ash wood possesses strength, toughness and is elastic with excellent bending qualities.  Is used for items such as tool handles, oars, paddles and baseball bats.

Seeds are eaten by wood ducks, cardinals and is browsed lightly by deer.
