Southern crabapple (Malus angustifolia) is a shrub or small tree, 20 to 30 feet in height with a short trunk usually 8 to 10 inches in diameter, with rigid, spreading branches forming a broad, rounded, open crown.Southern crabapple grows best in well-drained, moist and acid soils. Southern crabapple produces fruit resembling small apples, yellow-green in color and sour in taste that is eaten by whitetail deer, bobwhites, pheasants, rabbits, squirrels and many other species.

Yellow-green to red, round, 3 cm wide. Matures in fall.
Uses:
Landscaping value. Fruit is used in jellies and preserves. Fruit eaten by deer, turkey, various birds and small mammals.
