Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) are the largest and oldest trees to ever inhabit the earth. It is a evergreen tree with gray-green foliage growing to be 60' to 200' in height, with a spread of 25 to 35 feet, but heights of 300 feet are not uncommon. The giant sequoia has been called "the noblest of a noble race". Bark is reddish brown, thick, ridged and furrowed. Branches are generally horizontal to downward-sweeping with upturned ends.
Habitat:
Grows best in full sun; grows in acidic, drought tolerant, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained clay soils.
Uses:
Serve as excellent windbreaks and makes a manificent speciman. Wildlife primarily use Giant Sequoia for shelter.
